Fluoride Free Dentistry Strengthens the Teeth

The use of fluoride in toothpastes initially began in the year 1914 creating an apprehensive air for the American Dental Association (ADA) in 1937. It was only until the year 1950s that the use of fluoride for toothpastes gained ADA's approval. Procter and Gamble was the first to research toothpastes in 1950.

It was five years later that the said company commenced its first clinically-proven fluoride toothpaste under Crest. However, in the year 1988, Hileman published a study about the harmful effects of it in the body which began the emergence of fluoride-free dentistry.

Aside from oral hygiene products such as toothpaste they has also been used to fluoridate water and prevent tooth decay. But unknown to others, fluoride is an element more poisonous than lead and only a little less poisonous than arsenic. It has also been prominently used for pesticides, fungicides, anesthetics and lots of other drugs.

Fluoride free dentistry provides dental health services that don't depend on fluoride to strengthen the teeth and prevent dental caries because they know of its dangers.

It has been directly linked to dental fluorosis, a condition usually characterized by mottled teeth. Studies have shown that thirty percent of children who drink fluoridated water developed dental fluorosis.

Fluoride has been known to cross the blood brain barrier, causing major complications involving the central nervous system. In fact, the use of fluoride has also been correlated with Alzheimer's, various forms of dementia and mental retardation.

In fluoride free dentistry, all these safety issues are no longer a threat. Furthermore, it is also known to cause skeletal fluorosis, which is due to inhibition of succinate dehydrogenase. In mild cases, skeletal fluorosis causes chronic joint pain, an uncanny similarity to the signs it is also known to cause disequilibrium in various bodily functions.

It decreases the hormone melatonin, a hormone that helps in the regulation of sleep-wake cycle, thereby causing chronic insomnia. Fluoride can also inhibit the activity of the thyroid gland and has been used to treat hyperthyroidism. In healthy and underactive thyroids, however, fluoride is bad news because it may cause hypothyroidism.
