restroom, dental hygiene, and a woman
Cleaning your tongue has numerous advantages for your oral health, as we discussed in an earlier blog. Yet, are all tongue cleaners the same? Why not just use a kitchen spoon or a toothbrush to clean your tongue? Let's look at it.
A TONGUE SCRAPER'S USE AND SELECTION FOR BETTER ORAL HEALTH
A tongue scraper is a dental tool that enhances oral health by removing coating, extra bacteria, and unconsumed food particles off the tongue. As we all know, scraping your tongue can help keep your mouth clean and reduce bad breath.
If you are concerned about how to pick and use a tongue scraper for improved dental health, you should choose a scraper that is high-quality and made of the appropriate materials. How long and how frequently you should clean your tongue scraper depends on the material you use to manufacture it. You can clean your tongue with a tongue scraper if you have sensitive tongues.
TASK GUIDE: TONGUE SCRAPER
Ayurvedic hygiene practices such as tongue scraping have been practiced for ages. Even if there is conflicting evidence on the usefulness of tongue scraping, it shouldn't be used as a substitute for other hygiene practices like brushing and flossing. To prevent foul breath and gum problems, however, many persons with halitosis or "coated tongue" use tongue scrapers.

Do you want to know if scratching your tongue might harm your taste buds? There is no reason to worry if you use it lightly. The soft tissues, however, could be harmed by aggression.
Finding a tongue cleaner should not be difficult because there are so many options available. Here are a few possibilities:
A TOOTHBRUSH IS USED IN PLACE OF A TONGUE SCRAPER:
Yes, you can use your toothbrush to give the surface of your tongue a light scrub. So you should only use this if you have no other options. While using a toothbrush is preferable to doing nothing, research has shown that it is ineffective compared to using a tongue cleaner. One clinical study showed that a tongue cleaner reduced VSC levels (Volatile Sulfur Compounds–the main driver of bad breath) by 75% while using a toothbrush to clean the tongue only reduced levels by 45%. What a significant difference. (Note: in a pinch you can even use a kitchen spoon, but as tongue scrapers are pretty inexpensive, just buy one)
